Have you ever started reading a page out of a book and felt the need to re-read it over and over again, all the while not understanding a single word until the moment you finally give up and just close the book out of frustration? Well, what would you say if I told you that what you are eating has more to do with your inability to pay attention and retain all that information, more than you might even realize? It might seem obvious, but we can be a little forgetful with our eating habits and how it relates back to the tasks we carry out each day. If one eats a healthy lunch and dinner overall, they may think what’s the problem? Why are they not able to focus? Well, that depends. What did that person also eat in between all those meals? Did they drink soda? Or have ice-cream? Fried food? All of those things can contribute to feeling tired and contributing to a lack of focus.
If you like to read regularly, and this is an issue for you, try to go for fresh fruits that you enjoy: strawberries and blueberries are especially known to enhance focus abilities and are great for any study sessions! Adding a dose of protein is the ideal snack! Almond/peanut butter, cheese or a bit of milk with a bit of fruit is just right! Drinking lots of water is essential too! Also, try to read before a big meal if you’re planning on something like that. It’s been shown that after eating meals with a lot of carbohydrates, we tend to feel more tired and have less energy. It may vary on the individual but reading early in the morning if applicable is quite efficient. Also, we tend to be the sharpest as soon as we wake-up, just a little tip from me to you!
I shared some photos of kids’ snacks that are both healthy and appetizing so that it’s a win-win! There are also some highly engaging books that promote healthy eating which you can check out here: Children’s Books That Promote Healthy Eating . I recommend reading these books with a child to ensure that the message is quite understood. And hopefully that leads to the kiddies eating some healthy snacks while trying to read the same books all on their own. And now doing so quite efficiently, so they can now explain the message back to you now, all on their own. 🙂
